With over 1.2 million Goldfinch breeding in the UK, the small bird is doing really well.
Most stay in the UK all year round, with some migrating to Spain.

The Goldfinch was captured and used as a caged bird with it’s beautiful call, just like the Canary.
They feed on Sunflower, Thistle, and Teasel, and you cannot tell the difference between the male and female.
The image I always wanted was one on Teasel, and back in 2010 I managed to capture one as I was walking around with my camera, then again at my hide when a juvenile landed.

The plumage is like something from a tropical island with the bright yellow feathers and bright red crest – it is an amazing bird to capture in flight.
