The African Grey Parrot is one of the most intelligent birds in the bird world, they place along side the Dolphin and Gorilla.

They live for 40-70 years in captivity. They have many homes in their lifetime, though passing of there mate, or just because the person didn’t do the research to understand their needs and commitment. Or just life changes dictated there life.

If you are looking for a total companion then the CAG as we call them are the full package. The can communicate with a human, understanding your moods, feelings. Bella is part of our flock from a baby she looked to us for guidance and love attention.

The interactive enjoyment we get from her is priceless she understands what we talk about never missing a trick, listens in and responds to what we talk about.

Clever is an understatement for her, 2yrs and 5 months her knowledge of words is fenominal. I make a record of what she says and to date we are on 280 sentence or Rymm’s. She will call me if I leave the room or go outside and I respond to her by calling back.

She has to be doing what I do watching me make her toys or making her tea, she sits and watches me. Taking in everything, eyes dilating from small to large. There a sign of the Greys concentration. Her feathers are another indication of her mood, she will open then slightly when concentrating and puff them up when she is not happy

Bella understands breakfast dinner and tea time, saying what she wants from Pasta rice, Omelette with Sweetcorn. She will name all the different vegetables sha eats.

We have not seen the children for weeks then yesterday we had my daughter and her 2 boys then my mate with his daughter. Bella started to say are the where are the children, are the children coming. She picks up on everything we discuss through the day laughing if I laugh or answer my wife.

She sings Pop goes the weasel and waites for me to go Pop, or if I sing it she will pop at the end. Her knowledge of the difference between birds is fantastic. She will call like a Starling then I will say call like a small bird and she will do the sweetest smallest whistle like a baby sparrow.

The feathers give me an indication of what mood she is in, so knowledge of the Grey is so important if you are to understand them. They molt and have moods as the hormones rocket through the roof.

Having photographed birds and observed their behaviour in the wild means a lot what Bella does or is about to do is much the same as any bird would do.

Caring for Bella means dedication, the joy any pet gives is priceless to the owner. The cage is cleaned 3 times a day, we boil water left to cool for her to drink as even tap water contains unwanted chemicals.

Her perches are changed round to give her feet and toes different surfaces to grip onto. Toys are changed weekly, I make new toys for her every week to stimulate her brain. She has a free time when she flys round our living room, and sits and talks, that’s what she loves to do.

Other Grey parrots do tricks for rewards but I don’t believe she should have to perform for a treat, Bella responds to my voice and gets praised which she loves. She will sit on my shoulder when she wants me to talk to her or, when she is trying to tell me something like she wants a drink of water.

Bella has 8000 feathers.

Bella needs 12 hours sleep to be in good moods and health, this means she is so content and happy all the time, we do leave her with the radio on or TV just for company.

My lovey wife Ruth loves her and do so much to help maintain her daily lifestyle, making her fresh salad or cleaning her cage, putting her to bed by covering her up for the night.

Ruth will talk to her and sing to her play with her or make her toys to chew. Having Ruth to help me is so important in Bella’s life and means we both play our part, she is our flock and will eat when we eat.

I am sure she will play a big part in my Blog as she learns new things and gives us daily endless enjoyment.

We meet again little Sparrow the time I put your food out is here, you wait patiently in the Holly tree sitting on the splintered branch. Your family watch you from my rooftop waiting for the sign, All is clear.

The lens cap comes off the power is turned on focus, turn your litte brown head for me. O you are so beautiful, no bright colours of red, yellow, green, or blue but different shades of brown. Coffee colour beige and black. Little beak glossy, tiny grey feet.

Male House Sparrow.

You are the reason I look through the camera capturing your beauty, as you sing a song. Your call now can be heard in my living room as my Bella African Grey Parrot mimics your call to perfection.

You have a another species I looked for many years, I was told you are in decline just like many other species that suffer through the Human Race. Your image is printed and sits in my Best Photo album and you will be a star in your own right as my friends see you close up and see for the first time your feather detail.

The food is out see you in the morning my little Sparrow.

Young Gulls In action

I cant say enough about the A7r4 from a birding point of view it is a joy to use and the keeper rate is unmatched to any body and Lens i have ever owned. If i miss a couple of images its because of user error, but its just fantastic the way it keeps track of the birds. Yes i know there not the fastest birds to judge a camera on, but you find me someone who posts images on a trusted review of Fast moving birds. There always Eagles or Osprey in fantastic light and perfect conditions.

I just love any bird and to look at the agility of the bird wing shapes and movement like a hawk the young gulls are very fast and never do the same thing twice so you act on impulse, but its lovely to see all the different positions they get into when you edit. I turned them to Black and White for a better look at the feather shape and detail.

Walking Again.

Its was so good to get out today even if I was a little slow taking care of my new Achiles tendon. The Swans have arrived with the Tufted ducks and a few geese but no Coots yet. The comorant was busy as usual catching the fish in the lake.

It was great to watch all the different species and behavior I had not witnessed before. The young gulls were taking leaves from the water and flying up to drop from height. On the beach they do this to break shells, so it was great seeing the practicing this skill.

The Swan is a great bird to observe, with so many different movements from cleaning its feathers to sinking low into the water as it chases the other Swan intruder.

Trees loose the multi coloured leaves as they hang on like a game who is the last one on the 🌳. They look for a place to land like a para coming into land. Some will make it to water and float away, some will fall to be collected by the Grey Squirrel to nestle in a V shape as the winter house.

They will pile up against log piles making a warm fefuge for the Hedgehog, not seen in my garden for 5 years now. It once came out for nuts at 3 and sat quietly with me, the rubber of the on the tyre its final hour.

Its all the signs and sounds of Winter around the Geese calling me we here to be found in a lush green field they rest on the ground. They feed in peace, but eyes scan the flock, its the green figure again creeping like a Fox every step so slow now sound do you know.

The colour Teal is approaching to the mud banks, flying in formation twisting and turning like Red Arrows at the display. They take the warmth of the winter sun on their body’s, patiently waiting for the tide to arrive.

The Green man is here again a voice whispers, he ha a different camera this year, will he get me in flight, to be displayed hopefully not in Black and White.

The Reeds on the estuary are higher then the man, knowledge from his Hard Drive, his wildlife memory Bank telling him that a beautiful white Egret will arrive soon to feed on the mud flats as the tide unsettles small creatures for him to feast on. The Aperture set shutter speed just write it takes flight pure white like a Kite.

Stepping out of the metal motorised vehicle the man moves through the undergrowth, ferns bluebells flowers of all descriptions of many colours. Tall small even attach to the old brick wall. The excitement builds as the heart races once more the animal and bird wait as the Camouflage object appears between the small gap. Eyes trained to lock on to any slitest movement.

Short Eared Owl Canon 50D 100-400mk1

Their eyes meet like to lovers for the first time, slowly the round button is pressed halfway to gain focus then 123 like the burst of his machine gun, breathing, heart rate slowing he lowers the Lens and just looks at the wonder of the beauty before him.

The animals and birds seen through the camera of all makes and models over a long period of time, countries and scenery will always drive him on to encounter another wonderful image and story how the man puts %150 into planning his next mission.

Sony A7r4 200-600 +1.4 Ext

This is the first time out after being in a cast since April where i can capture the birds in flight. Yes there only gulls but they i can see the tracking and focusing on theses birds who give the birds in flight technique a great opportunity.

I have always had a gripe about extenders but this combination gives you more reach and gets fantastic results with amazing image quality at f9.

Look at Creatures

When you see the spider on the roof of your static van at night, leave it in peace, no more insects fly about as he sits and waits for it, making your environment insect free.

Don’t step on an ant or any creature in your pathway, stride over be kinder it will make you feel better. They all have a part to play, let the wasp or bee out by opening a window it flys away and you will feel better.

Help the creature

Opinions and Principles

Lessons learned along the way, hard lessons some that hurt some you just know not to do again. We learn to or a principle is there in our minds.

My principles and opinions are there through experience in life, I don’t stick to them through stubeness or because I am awkward. Something tells me it’s right that I should stick to them

I would not have certain ways if I knew they hurt people or cause friction and an argument. I am easy going but have old ways that are set because I believe in them. I can’t change what I think is right just to please someone and go against what I think is the right thing to do.

Do I change what is inside me all these years to keep the peace, or do I listen to reason. There not big things I stick to just a few things that I believe in and make me the man I am today.

Its only good i want to come out of every single thing I do, to help in anyway, to give advice in ant situation, stop what I do to help my friend who needs help.

Go out of my way to rescue someone from a bad day, change my plans at the last minute, cancel what I was going to do. Drop everything your doing to assist another human being you have never seen before as he struggles.

Think of the everyone else first. I do because I love helping my family and few friends, not knowing it will change my day.

So if I have a few principles or beliefs or just things I think are ✅?, is that to much to ask.

I Did It Blackies Way.

Wet and Wild Hide

Trapped in the van NO WAY, i went to the Hide with my Paracord and sat for an hour watching the Woodpecker Coal Tit Blue Tit Magpie Chaffinch Robin Long Tailed Tit and Wren all feeding in the haavy rain

I used the Slow Motion mode on the A7r4 with the 200-600 in Manual mode.

The Grey Squirrel came in and scared all the birds away but you have to love them as they eat, lovely detail.
